To achieve high output power, the compression ratio was raised from 9.3:1 to 10.0:1 and charge pressure of the turbochargers was raised from 1.2 bar to 1.5 bar 22 psi 17 psi. Pulse are configured to use the cross-engine exhaust manifold. Pistons are reinforced to cope with the additional support and compression. Variable valve lift "phasing" was also added to the engine, which is the first for M of the engine. Turbochargers Garrett MGT2260DSL units. The engine has a red line of 7.200 rpm. Increasingly stringent international regulations of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption are cited as the reasons for the use of a forced-induction V8 engine compared to the previous models V10 engine, with a new engine to reduce CO2 emissions by 25%. Claimed fuel economy has improved 30% compared with its predecessor.
Acceleration to 100 km / h 62 km / h is achieved in 4 seconds and a top speed limited to 250 km / h 160 mph. This can be increased to 305 kph 190 mph if the M driver package was selected.
